Get married. Travel the world.
That's our motto at least.
Amsterdam
On Monday, Oct. 10, we set off from Las Vegas to start our honeymoon. We flew to Amsterdam (via Minneapolis) to spend a day checking out the sites. It was my (Kenny here) first time on the European continent. Lucky for us, the weather was perfect in Amsterdam for the one day that we were there. Even more fortunate for us, Heesop, one of my groomsmen, was in town for the week on business. What are the chances?! Given the limited time, we hit some of the major sites in town, including Rembrandt's House, the Van Gogh Museum, Dam Square, the Red Light District (thanks Heesop!) and walking along some of the many canals flowing through the city. Also, of great interest to Audrey was our visit to Gassan Diamonds where we went on a guided tour of the facility where they cut and polish diamonds. We learned about diamond processing and the four C's. After all the sightseeing, we rested for a bit at our hotel, the Hotel Pulitzer, before heading out for dinner with Heesop at Tujuh Maret, a highly-regarded Indonesian restaurant in Amsterdam.
Nairobi, Kenya
After our day in Amsterdam, we headed south to Nairobi, Kenya, where we spent one evening resting up before heading off to the Amboseli National Park to begin our safari adventures. We stayed at the House of Waine, which was a great little hotel. The hotel had a very homey feel to it. The room was well appointed and the staff provided excellent service. I took a few pictures, which can be found here.
Amboseli National Park - Tortilis Camp
The next morning, we were anxious to get our safari started. We headed to the airport to hop on a flight to Amboseli for two nights at the Tortilis Camp. I had read that the scenery would be beautiful at Amboseli National Park, with Kilimanjaro (Africa's tallest mountain) as the backdrop. The descriptions were spot on (as the British would say)! The "tent" that we stayed in was much more than we expected. It felt more like a resort. During our game drives, we saw a large variety of wildlife including wildebeest, gazelle, giraffe, zebra, elephant, buffalo, vultures, lions and a single cheetah. The leopard eluded us. [PICTURES TO COME!]
Masai Mara Game Reserve - Elephant Pepper Camp
Following Amboseli, we took two planes to get to the Masai Mara Game Reserve where we spent three nights at the Elephant Pepper Camp. The Masai Mara is a 700 square mile reserve that is home to elephants, black rhinos, buffalo, leopards, cheetahs, wildebeest, zebra and gazelle. Hippos and crocodiles live in the waters running through the reserve. We saw TONS of animals here. The landscape was a lot more lush and green than at Amboseli. [PICTURES TO COME!]
Pemba Island, Zanzibar, Tanzania - Fundu Lagoon
A hop, skip and a jump from Kenya is Zanzibar, where we spent four evenings at Fundu Lagoon on Pemba Island. Pemba Island actually lies across the Pemba Channel to the north of Zanzibar making Fundu Lagoon a rather remote beach destination. It was great to be able to relax and enjoy the surf and sand at the resort after doing our safari adventures in Kenya. Audrey and I partook in a number of activities available at the resort, including diving, fishing, snorkeling and sailing! Audrey had recently received her PADI certification in Hong Kong in anticipation of the trip. [PICTURES TO COME!]
The End
Alas, all good things must come to an end. We began our journey back to Hong Kong on Oct. 22, arriving in Hong Kong on Oct. 23. We hope to have a more pics of our honeymoon adventures for everyone to see as soon as we can!
